That's cool :) We are now tracking the project on Process-one Erlang forge: https://forge.process-one.net/browse/Ext_shell

Hello :) I will add Erlmail.

How do you get more projects listed? I've love to have ErlMail listed :-) http://code.google.com/p/erlmail/

Hello, The problem comes from Tobbe blog, who serve a wrong RSS file. The end result is that we cannot link back to the article. I hope this will be fixe as this blog is very interesting :)

Does this only control/limit the VM or does it control epmd too? I think there is a small patch around somewhere for epmd. (also, dear planeterlang, your rss feed doesn't work too well for these articles without links.)

Very interesting article, James.

It has nothing to do with Erlang

That's a good question, and as a newbie I'd like to know more about Erlang shortcomings as well, including string handling performance issues/fixes. Another Planet Erlang article did reference a study that showed there are four "pitfalls" that could be addressed: http://planeterlang.org/story.php?title=Effective_Erlang http://weblog.hypotheticalabs.com/?p=165 = 9J =

I'm curious, does the perl version hash the entire file and/or traverse symlinks properly?
273 days
Yes, so am I. Sorry about that. The author has know a dedicated Erlang feed so we can focus on it.

This isn't a Erlang-related article. Voting this down.

Very nice and interesting blog post !

> And while Erlang has its warts and shortcomings I also think its the best of the current crop of tools. I whole heartedly agree on Java’s issues, but out of interest could you list erlangs shortcomings. This would help Newcomers avoid the pitfalls? Dave

where's the code for this? This is really interesting to me. TIA.

The spam is in the RSS because you have downloaded it. If you want to be sure to avoid it, you can subscribe to the RSS feed of the published articles only. This is done on the main page. The direct link to this feed is: http://www.planeterlang.org/rss.php There is no spam in it. If you have other idea regarding spam I am listening. We already track the post as much as possible on the site to bury them as fast as possible. We block IP address of spam posters. Anything else ?

Hello, Could you please contact me ? We have launch https://forge.process-one.net/ a while back with this idea in mind. We are hosting several Erlang projects and contribs already (like eunit). I propose that you get in touch with me to make this happen ! Thank you ! -- Mickaël Rémond

1. Spam. Though you can bury it on the site, it still ends up in the RSS feed. 2. A more prominent direct link to the original article/post/site 3. Publish news directly without any voting as already noted (but something has to be done about spam first though...)
298 days
I think that publishing each post directly would be helpful until the site gains more traffic. In this way planet erlang would seems a lot more dynamic.

Regarding the reddit like feature, is there an implementation already of such feature (in a CMS) ?
299 days
Hum, putting the source in the title is possible by the submitter. Putting the full URL in title might be a bit frightening, no ?
299 days
You can click on the bury link to mark a post as spam.
299 days
The source/author of posts is quite difficult to determine (full URL is better, yay, but not the same). Perhaps the source blog name should be more prominent both in the RSS title and on the page itself. The person's name who posted it is often not the same as the source -- and really the poster is not the most interesting bit of information.
299 days
I think some downvoting mechanism would be quite useful or some mechanism for marking posts as spam (with possible ban for users who posted such links). And also I'd like some way to open link in "reddit style" with frame above where I vote AFTER I read an article (pressing "back" is not very convenient)

Done. Full text is now also included. Please, let me know if this works for you. Anything else ?

If would be nice if you have category organisation suggestions. The idea if to make it usefull as a good classification medium for Erlang information / lin on the web.
